Thank God 2020 is behind us...
Casting our memory back to Jan 2020, and as a business we're ready to go hard or go home! (Little did we know we would spend so much time at home)
At the start of the year, we had a small yet strong workforce but we were struggling with the amount of electrical works we had coming in and couldn't service it all. We offered a job to Phil, who agreed to join us in April after working his notice period. All excited and ready to go, we bought another van, iPad, Electrical tester, uniform, fuel card, credit card. Phil left his job mid March ready to start in April.........
...... Hello Covid!!
We closed our doors on the 23rd March, our staff embraced the new word in our vocabulary "furlough" and Phil was left in limbo. As a company, we committed to paying our staff 100% of their wages. We honoured Phil's contract and employed him full time on 100% wages. We paid all of our suppliers in full and on time despite not being paid in full ourselves.
Over the next few months, the business (despite the grants) would go on to loose in excess of £30,000 in the form of unpaid sales invoices, wages, and overheads. We anticipate that we missed out on approx £120k in sales revenue from being closed.
Fast forward to Q4 of the year and we've made a strong come back, our teams are working harder than ever and working flat out to service our clients. As the saying goes, "There's not enough hours in the day"
There's no doubt that as the new year approaches, (and our financial year end) we will have lost a good chunk of money. Our sales turnover will be significantly down, and our net profit margins will be low. However, the business is ready to bounce back, we're all still employed and busy, and we're already investing in our staff's development & training.
Jan 2021 will see our staff go through various training courses including: City & Guilds Electric Charging Station, B + E Driving Licence, 18th Edition Wiring Regulations, Solar Pv Qualifications. Along side this we have applied to be re accredited with the MCS scheme for Solar PV. (Which is where we started)
Despite all of the chaos with 2020, we've had some good projects and completed some fantastic work for our clients.
See you all in 2021!
